Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3866

In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can cause harm, whether on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Bismillāhilladhī lā yaḍurru ma'asmihi shay'un fīl-arḍi wa lā fis-samā'i wa huwas-Samī'ul-'Alīm.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is a shield against all forms of harm, including the insidious 'evil eye' that can manifest as doubt and skepticism. Recite it in the morning after Fajr prayer and in the evening after Asr prayer, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is also beneficial to recite whenever you feel a wavering of faith or are exposed to environments that sow seeds of doubt.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere conviction, believing in the power of Allah's name. Focus on the meaning: that no harm can touch you when you invoke Allah's name, for He is the One who hears all and knows all. Take your time with each word, allowing the protective essence of the supplication to fill your heart.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever says this three times in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity until the evening, and whoever says it three times in the evening will not be afflicted by any calamity until the morning.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 3866). This dua is a profound statement of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). By invoking His name, we acknowledge His absolute power over all affairs, rendering any form of doubt or negativity powerless against us. It's a daily reinforcement of our connection with the Divine, fortifying our faith against external whispers of disbelief and internal struggles with certainty.

Source & Authentication

‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no servant who says, in the morning of every day and the evening of every night: Bismillāhilladhī lā yaḍurru ma'asmihi shay'un fīl-arḍi wa lā fis-samā'i wa huwas-Samī'ul-'Alīm (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can cause harm, whether on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing), more than once, but that nothing will harm him.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 3866).
