Dua for Protection Against the Evil Eye of Admiration

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي وَشَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ وَأَنْ أَقْتَرِفَ عَلَى نَفْسِي سُوءًا أَوْ أَرُدَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ

In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of myself, and from the evil of Satan and his polytheism, and from bringing evil upon myself or bringing it upon a Muslim.

Bismillah, a'udhu billahi min sharri nafsi wa sharri ash-shaytani wa shirkih, wa an aqtarifa 'ala nafsi su'an aw aruddahu ila muslim.

This dua is potent when you feel a sense of unease after posting something that has garnered significant attention or positive feedback, especially if you are concerned about it being a source of envy or admiration that could bring harm. It's also good to recite when generally feeling vulnerable to unseen negative influences.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing on the meaning. It's recommended to place your hand on the area where you feel pain or discomfort, if applicable, or simply to raise your hands in supplication. It can be recited once or multiple times for added comfort. Remember to also maintain regular dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and other protective duas.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua for seeking Allah's protection from all forms of evil.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught his uncle al-'Abbas to recite the following words: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي وَشَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ وَأَنْ أَقْتَرِفَ عَلَى نَفْسِي سُوءًا أَوْ أَرُدَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ 'In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of myself, and from the evil of Satan and his polytheism, and from bringing evil upon myself or bringing it upon a Muslim.' Sunan Abi Dawud 5080. This hadith highlights the importance of seeking refuge in Allah from internal and external sources of harm.
