Virtues & Benefits
This supplication directly invokes Allah's protection, shielding you from any harm that might arise from the 'evil eye,' which can stem from envy or even excessive admiration. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a way to ward off potential negative energies or intentions directed towards oneself, ensuring that one's blessings remain protected by Allah's grace.
Source & Authentication
Narrated Abu Salama bin 'Abdur-Rahman: The companions of the Prophet ﷺ said: "O Messenger of Allah! We are afflicted by the evil eye." He said: "You will be protected from it if you do not say: 'O Allah, increase for him (his wealth, family, and sustenance)!'" Then he mentioned a similar wording: 'O Allah, bless him.' (Sahih Muslim 2144 mentions a similar theme of asking for blessings to ward off evil eye, and Abu Dawud 5088 with the wording above is also authentic). The Prophet ﷺ also said: 'When any one of you looks at his brother or himself or his property with admiration, let him invoke Allah's blessings for him, for the evil eye is a reality.' (Narrated by Ibn Majah, graded Sahih by Al-Albani). This dua is a general protection, and when specific admiration is felt, asking for Allah's blessings is key, and seeking refuge from potential harm is a prudent step.
