Virtues & Benefits
This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a comprehensive request for Allah's protection against all forms of evil created by Him. By reciting it, we are actively seeking refuge in the ultimate power, acknowledging that only Allah can shield us from harm, including the subtle but potentially damaging effects of the evil eye (al-'ayn). It empowers us to engage in activities with confidence, knowing we have sought the strongest possible safeguard.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever says 'A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq' (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created) three times in the evening, nothing will harm him that night.' (Sahih Muslim 2708). While this narration specifies 'evening,' the universal wording of the dua makes it applicable for seeking protection at any time, including during the day and specific activities.
