Dua for Protection Against the Evil Eye During a Difficult Pregnancy

Evil Eye & Hasad
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2199

In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for myself against everything that may harm me, against the evil of every soul or envious eye. May Allah cure me; in the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah for you.

Bismillahi, arqee nafsi min kulli shay'in yu'dheenee, min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'aynin hasidatin, Allahu yashfeenee, bismillahi arqeek.

When to Read

This dua is particularly beneficial to recite during pregnancy, especially if you feel vulnerable or are experiencing a difficult period. It can be recited daily, or whenever you feel a need for protection against unseen harms, including the evil eye and envy. You can also recite it over yourself, your unborn child, or even water to drink.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and full reliance on Allah. It's recommended to place your hand on the area of discomfort or on your stomach while reciting. Take a deep breath, focus your heart on Allah, and visualize His protection enveloping you and your baby. You can repeat it three times for added emphasis.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a direct teaching from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, passed down through his wife Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), demonstrating its profound importance. It empowers the believer to seek Allah's protection directly from all forms of harm, including the potent force of the evil eye and the malice of envy. By invoking Allah's name and acknowledging His power to heal, one strengthens their spiritual shield and finds solace during challenging times, such as a difficult pregnancy. The act of performing ruqyah on oneself is an affirmation of faith and self-reliance on Allah's mercy and power.

Source & Authentication

‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach them to protect themselves with the following words: “O Allah, I seek refuge in Your perfect words from every devil and every poisonous creature and from every evil eye.” Then he would say: “The Jinn are of three types: a type that have wings and fly in the air, a type that are like snakes and scorpions, and a type that stay in their places and roam about.” Then he said: “O Allah, protect me with Islam while standing, protect me with Islam while sitting, and protect me with Islam while remaining awake and not sleeping.” (Sahih Muslim 2200) Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught a more specific dua for one suffering from the effects of the evil eye: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، أَرْقِي نَفْسِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ يُؤْذِينِي، مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ أَوْ عَيْنٍ حَاسِدَةٍ، اللَّهُ يَشْفِينِي، بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكَ. ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) permitted me to perform ruqyah against the evil eye.
