أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
When to Read
This powerful supplication is ideal to recite when you feel vulnerable, when you see something that impresses you (whether yours or someone else's), or when you fear the negative effects of envy or the evil eye. It's a good practice to say it in the morning and evening, and before sleeping, as a general shield.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and firm belief in Allah's power to protect. It's recommended to recite it three times in the morning and three times in the evening. You can also blow gently onto yourself after reciting it, especially if you are seeking protection for yourself or loved ones.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a comprehensive protection against all forms of evil, including the evil eye and envy (hasad). The 'perfect words of Allah' refer to His divine decree and the totality of His creation, granting immense spiritual fortification. It's a manifestation of tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and acknowledgment of His ultimate sovereignty over all matters. This was the very dua the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught his grandsons, Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), for protection when they were ill, signifying its potent efficacy.
Source & Authentication
Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to teach them this invocation as he taught them a Surah from the Qur'an: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye.' (A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaitanin wa hammatin, wa min kulli 'ainin lammah). And he would say: 'It was the practice of Abraham (peace be upon him) to invoke Allah with these words for protection for his offspring.'
