O Allah, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous. And grant me a truthful tongue in later generations. And make me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight.
Allahumma ati ni hikmatan wa alhiqni bis-salihin. Waj'al li lisana sidqin fil-akhirin. Waj'alni min warathati Jannatin-Na'im.
When to Read
Recite this dua when you feel the pangs of jealousy or envy (hasad) affecting your peace of mind. It's particularly beneficial when you notice these feelings arising in response to the blessings others have received. You can also make it a regular part of your supplications, seeking Allah's protection and positive qualities for yourself.
How to Read
Make this dua with sincere intention and a heart focused on Allah. Raise your hands as you normally would for supplication. Visualize yourself embodying the qualities you are asking for: wisdom, righteousness, and a good reputation. Believe in Allah's power to transform your inner state and grant you what you ask.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), addresses the root of many internal struggles, including those stemming from hasad. By asking for wisdom, we gain the ability to understand Allah's decree and the blessings bestowed upon others. Seeking righteousness helps us focus on our own spiritual growth rather than comparing ourselves. A truthful tongue in later generations is a reminder of leaving a positive legacy, shifting focus away from worldly envy. Finally, asking to be an inheritor of Paradise redirects our aspirations towards the ultimate reward, making worldly comparisons seem insignificant.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me words that I may say in the morning and evening.' He said: 'Say: O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Lord of all things and their Controller, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Shaitan and his Shirk. (Say): O Allah, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous. And grant me a truthful tongue in later generations. And make me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight.' He said: 'Say them in the morning and in the evening.' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3227)
