اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ

O Allah, help me to remember You, to give thanks to You, and to worship You in the best manner.

Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika

When to Read

This powerful dua is ideally recited after the Maghrib prayer, as the night begins to fall. It sets a beautiful intention for the hours ahead, asking Allah to grant you the strength and focus needed for worship and reflection during the night. You can also make it a part of your evening routine before you settle down to sleep or engage in any night prayers.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely with your hands raised slightly, turning the palms upwards as is customary when asking Allah for something. Focus on the meaning of the words, truly seeking Allah's assistance. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, although the core of the dua is the heartfelt supplication itself. Make it a consistent practice as the sun sets.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is profoundly comprehensive. By asking for help in remembering Allah (dhikr), we are asking for constant awareness of His presence, which is a cornerstone of Islamic life. Asking for help in giving thanks (shukr) means we are seeking the ability to appreciate His countless blessings, big and small, and to express that gratitude in our hearts and actions. Finally, asking for the best form of worship (husn 'ibadah) encompasses all acts of devotion, from formal prayers to seeking knowledge and reflecting on creation. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself taught this dua, indicating its immense significance. It's a prayer that encompasses the essence of a believer's relationship with their Lord, aiming to make every moment, especially the quiet hours of the night, a source of spiritual growth and closeness to Allah.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ passed by Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was supplicating and said, 'What is this supplication?' Abu Bakr said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I said this in front of you and you did not object.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'May Allah make me hear. O Abu Bakr, indeed I like this supplication for you, so say it in the morning and evening three times.' Narrated by Abu Dawud, who graded it Hasan. It is also found in Al-Tirmidhi (3594) and graded Sahih by Al-Albani.
