Dua for Entering Home: Seeking Allah's Protection from Temptation

Entering Home
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1978

O Allah, I ask of You the best of entrance and the best of exit. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayr al-mawlij wa khayr al-makhraj, bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Allahi Rabbina tawakkalna.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited upon entering your home. It's a moment when we transition from the outside world, with its potential distractions and temptations, into our personal space. Making this dua is like drawing a shield of Allah's protection around your home and your family from the very threshold.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing on the meaning of seeking Allah's blessings and protection. It's recommended to say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) before beginning the full dua. Imagine yourself entering with Allah's name, leaving with His name, and placing your complete reliance on Him for whatever unfolds within your home.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses seeking the best of both entering and exiting, a comprehensive request for well-being. By invoking Allah's name, we are essentially inviting His presence and protection into our homes, asking Him to guard us and our families against any evil or temptation that might be present, whether seen or unseen. It's a declaration of our reliance on Allah, acknowledging that all strength and protection come from Him.

Source & Authentication

Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When a man enters his house, he should say: Allahumma inni as'aluka khayr al-mawlij wa khayr al-makhraj, bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Allahi Rabbina tawakkalna. (O Allah, I ask of You the best of entrance and the best of exit. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.) And when he leaves his house, he should say: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlika (O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty).' *Note: The version provided in the main fields includes the phrase 'bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna' which is a common and well-authenticated addition, often taught alongside the primary part of the dua, reinforcing the invocation of Allah's name at the point of entry and exit. The core meaning of seeking the best entrance and exit and relying on Allah remains central.*
