Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3764

بِسْمِ اللهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah, our Lord, we trust.

Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Rabbina tawakkalna.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited upon entering your home. Imagine stepping through your doorway after a day out – whether it was for work, errands, or visiting family. This is your moment to consciously bring the remembrance of Allah into your personal space. It's not just a physical entry, but a spiritual one, marking your home as a place blessed by Allah's name.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity and awareness. As you say 'Bismillahi walajna' (In the name of Allah we enter), you are acknowledging that your entry is by His permission and with His blessing. When you say 'wa bismillahi kharajna' (and in the name of Allah we leave), you are also seeking His protection and guidance for any future departures. The final part, 'wa 'ala Rabbina tawakkalna' (and in Allah, our Lord, we trust), encapsulates complete reliance on Him for the well-being and blessings within your home. You can say it quietly to yourself or, if you are entering alone, just as a personal reminder.

Virtues & Benefits

This simple yet profound dua carries immense blessings. By invoking Allah's name upon entering, you are seeking His protection against any harm or negative influences that might try to enter your home. It transforms your dwelling into a sanctuary of peace and security, under Allah's watchful care. Furthermore, it continuously reminds you and your family that your home is a space where Allah is remembered and His guidance is sought. This can foster an environment of spiritual growth, learning, and tranquility, making it a place where faith flourishes and hearts are connected to the Divine.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: When any one of you enters his house, he should say: ‘O Allah, I ask You for good (in the coming) entrance and good (in the coming) exit. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and in Allah, our Lord, we trust.’ Then he should greet his family.
