Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3767

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we exit, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.

Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Allahi Rabbina tawakkalna

When to Read

This dua is recited when entering your home. It's a beautiful practice to begin your entry with remembrance of Allah, setting a tone of peace and security for your dwelling.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity as you step into your home. It's an act of acknowledging Allah's presence and seeking His protection and blessings for your household. Many scholars suggest saying 'Bismillah' ('In the name of Allah') before entering and after exiting any place, and this dua expands on that principle for the home.

Virtues & Benefits

By invoking Allah's name, you are essentially seeking His protection from any harm or negative influences entering your home with you. It also invites His blessings and mercy, making your home a sanctuary of peace and tranquility, a place where you can truly rest and recharge. It reinforces the understanding that our homes, like all aspects of our lives, are ultimately under Allah's care and command.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "When a man enters his house, he should say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the best of entering and the best of exiting. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we exit, and in Allah, our Lord, we place our trust.' Then he should greet his children and his wife if they are present, or say the greeting to the absent if they are not present."
