Seeking Allah's Protection from Wildfires

Weather & Nature
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 899

O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, and the goodness of what is in it, and the goodness of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bih, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bih.

When to Read

This supplication is particularly relevant when facing severe weather phenomena like strong winds that can precede wildfires, or when witnessing or hearing about the approach of such fires. It's a comprehensive prayer for seeking the good and safety from any natural event that carries potential harm.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on Allah's power and mercy. It's best recited at the onset of or during a severe weather event. Raise your hands if possible, as is customary when making dua, and face the Qiblah if the situation allows.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the essence of seeking Allah's protection by acknowledging His control over all creation. By asking for the 'good' of the phenomenon and refuge from its 'evil,' we are essentially asking Allah to turn a potentially destructive event into something beneficial or to simply avert its harm. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us comprehensive duas like this, which cover both positive and negative aspects, demonstrating the holistic nature of seeking divine aid.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Safinah that when the wind blew violently, the Prophet ﷺ would say: "O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, and the goodness of what is in it, and the goodness of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with." And when there was thunder, he would abandon talking and be silent, and he would say: "Glory be to Him Who displays the lightning for hope and fear, and He raises the clouds and the thunder praises Him by His praise, and the angels too from their fear, and He sends deafening thunderbolts, and strikes with them whom He wills, and saves whom He wills." (Sahih Muslim 899). While this hadith specifically mentions wind, its principles apply to other severe weather phenomena.
