O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, the goodness of what is within it, and the goodness of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of what is within it, and the evil of what it has been sent with. O Allah, I ask You to make it a source of blessing for me and to subjugate it to me, just as You subjugated the wind to Sulayman, and just as You subjugated the fire to Ibrahim. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and from the evil of Satan, and from evil sent by Satan, and from the evil of what he commands.
Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bihi. Wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bihi. Allahumma inni as'aluka an taj'ala fiha barakah wa an tushakhiraha li, kama sakhkharta ar-riha li Sulayman, wa kama sakhkharta an-nara li Ibrahim. Wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa min sharri ash-shaytan wa ash-sharri min ash-shaytan wa min sharri ma ta'muru bihi.
When to Read
This dua is particularly relevant when facing severe weather events like blizzards, heavy snowstorms, or strong winds. It's a prayer to recite when the elements pose a threat or cause disruption, reminding us of Allah's power over all creation and seeking His protection and mercy.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, understanding that Allah alone has the power to protect you. Turn towards the Qiblah if possible, raise your hands (if not praying), and implore Allah with a humble heart. It's a good practice to also make general supplications for safety and well-being during such times.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua helps in seeking Allah's direct protection from the harms associated with blizzards and extreme weather. It fosters a sense of reliance on Allah (Tawakkul) and reminds us that even the most formidable natural forces are under His command. By seeking refuge in Allah, we find true safety and peace, knowing that He is the ultimate protector against all adversity. The prayer also acknowledges Allah's power to make things beneficial for us, as seen in the examples of Prophet Sulayman (peace be upon him) and Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him).
Source & Authentication
There isn't one single hadith with this exact, comprehensive wording for blizzards. However, the practice of seeking refuge from evil and asking for the good of wind and rain is found in authentic narrations. For instance, when the wind was strong, the Prophet ๏ทบ would say: > **Arabic:** ุงููููููู ูู ููููุงุญูุง ูุงู ุถูุฑููุจูุง โ.โ > **Translation:** "O Allah, make it a rain, not a destructive storm." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1014) And when he saw lightning and thunder, he would abandon speaking and say: > **Arabic:** ุณูุจูุญูุงูู ู ููู ููุณูุจููุญู ุงูุฑููุนูุฏู ุจูุญูู ูุฏููู ููุงููู ููุงูุฆูููุฉู ู ููู ุฎููููุชููู โ.โ > **Translation:** "Glory be to Him Whom the thunder glorifies by His praise, and so do the angels because of His awe." (Sunan Abi Dawud 5096 - Hasan) The comprehensive dua above is a compilation reflecting these established Sunnah practices of seeking refuge from the evils of natural phenomena and asking for their blessings.
