Weather & Nature
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and distress, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from overwhelming debt and the domination of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This profound dua is not specific to humidity but is a comprehensive supplication for seeking Allah's protection against numerous afflictions. While the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to seek refuge from general worries, distress, weakness, laziness, fear, stinginess, debt, and being overpowered, we can encompass the *discomfort* caused by extreme humidity within the broader seeking of refuge from distress and affliction. Therefore, reciting this anytime you feel overcome by the oppressive heat and stickiness of high humidity is a beautiful way to turn to Allah for relief. It's a reminder that even physical discomfort can be a source of worry and unease, and Allah is the ultimate Protector.

How to Read

This dua is meant to be recited with sincerity and a heartfelt reliance on Allah. As with all supplications, it is best to face the Qiblah (direction of prayer) and raise your hands. Begin by acknowledging Allah's greatness and then pour out your heart, seeking refuge from these specific hardships. The Prophet ﷺ emphasized the importance of reciting supplications with conviction, believing that Allah will answer them. Try to understand the meaning of each phrase as you say it, connecting your own feelings of discomfort and worry to the words of the dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is incredibly comprehensive, covering a wide spectrum of physical, emotional, and financial difficulties. By seeking refuge in Allah from grief and distress, we acknowledge that physical discomfort like that from extreme humidity can indeed lead to these feelings. The Prophet ﷺ himself sought refuge in Allah from these specific things, showing us the importance of turning to our Creator for protection against both seen and unseen hardships. The reward lies in the act of seeking Allah's closeness and acknowledging His power to relieve us from any burden, including the oppressive nature of uncomfortable weather. It cultivates a mindset of trust and dependency on Allah (Tawakkul).

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of what he had done, and from the evil of what he had not done. He used to seek refuge in Allah most often from the evil of what he had done, and from the evil of what he had not done. He used to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of (the punishment of) the grave, and from the evil of (hearing) the evil news, and from the evil of the hell-fire, and from the evil of the life and the death. He used to say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and distress. I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess. I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming burden of debt and the overpowering of men."
