Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) set off on a journey, he would say Takbir three times, then say: 'Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it by ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we will surely return. O Allah, we ask You for goodness and piety in this journey, and for deeds that are pleasing. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and let us cover its distance. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor among the family, and O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of the journey and the evil of the calamity, and from seeing the worst in my family and my wealth. O Allah, take our affairs lightly and let us return with our wishes fulfilled.' And when he returned, he recited these words (Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha...) and added: 'We are returning, repenting, worshipping, and to our Lord we are not ungrateful.'
