اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا.
O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.
When to Read
This dua is specifically for times of severe drought and when the land is parched, and rain is desperately needed. It is often accompanied by the Prophet's ﷺ supplication for rain in general, as taught by him.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a feeling of dependence on Allah. It is best recited publicly when a congregation gathers to seek rain, as the Prophet ﷺ did. Raising one's hands is a sign of supplication, and turning one's cloak inside out is a symbolic act of turning towards Allah for a change in circumstances. It is also beneficial to follow this with the broader duas for rain taught by the Prophet ﷺ, such as seeking Allah's blessings in the sky and on the earth.
Virtues & Benefits
This simple yet powerful dua directly invokes Allah's mercy for a vital resource. The repetition emphasizes the urgency and deep need of the people. Such supplications, when made collectively and with earnestness, reflect the essence of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and highlight how natural calamities are a reminder of our dependence on our Creator.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, 'The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought, the lack of rain. So, while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering his Khutbah on a Friday, he asked Allah for rain, and clouds gathered and it rained. He asked Allah three times, saying: "O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!"' Sahih al-Bukhari 1009.
