اللَّهُمَّ اسْقِنَا غَيْثًا مُغِيثًا مَرِيئًا نَافِعًا غَيْرَ ضَارٍّ عَاجِلاً غَيْرَ آجِلٍ .
O Allah, grant us life-giving, wholesome, beneficial rain, not harmful, arriving quickly and not delayed.
Allahumma-sqina ghaythan mughithan mari'an nafi'an ghayra darin 'ajilan ghayra ajilin.
When to Read
This dua is specifically for times of drought or when rain is scarce and needed. It can be recited during the Friday Khutbah (sermon) when the Imam makes supplication for rain, or individually at any time, especially during or after the obligatory prayers.
How to Read
Raise your hands in supplication as you recite this dua. It is recommended to face the Qiblah (direction of prayer) if possible. Seeking Allah's help during hardship like drought is a sign of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and reliance on Him. The Quran emphasizes that Allah is the source of all provision, including rain: "And it is He who sends down rain after they had despaired and spreads His mercy. And He is the Protector, the Most Merciful." (Ash-Shura 42:28). Reciting this specific dua reflects the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ and shows our humble dependence on Allah's power to sustain life.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Zaid: The Prophet (ﷺ) went out to the Musalla (prayer place) to perform the Istisqa' (prayer for rain) and he supplicated for rain. He faced the Qiblah, wearing his cloak reversed. Then he prayed two rak'ahs, reciting Al-Alā and Al-Ghāshiyah. Then he addressed the people and supplicated for rain, saying: 'Allahumma-sqina ghaythan mughithan mari'an nafi'an 'ariman 'ajilan ghayra 'ajilin.' (O Allah, grant us life-giving, wholesome, beneficial rain, nurturing, arriving quickly and not delayed.) He then turned towards the Qiblah and made his supplication. I saw him facing the Qiblah, I believe he said: 'And he raised his hands and made supplication.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 1173)
