O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace so that I am in no need of anyone other than You. O Allah, grant me shade under the shade of Your Throne on the Day when there is no shade but Your shade.
Allahumma-kfini bihalalika 'an haramik, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak. Allahumma dhillani tahta dhilli 'arshika yawma la dhilla illa dhulluk.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is particularly relevant during intensely hot weather, when the sun's heat can be overwhelming and potentially cause sunstroke. It's a powerful supplication to ask Allah for protection from both physical harm (like heatstroke) and spiritual harm (unlawful provision). Recite it during the day, especially when venturing out into the sun, or in the evening as a general prayer for protection and sufficiency.
How to Read
This dua is a profound expression of reliance on Allah. Recite it with sincere intention and conviction, believing that Allah is the ultimate protector and provider. Raise your hands slightly if reciting it independently, as is the practice when making dua. Focus on the meaning of each phrase: asking for lawful sustenance, being made independent of creation, and seeking the ultimate shade of Allah's Throne on the Day of Judgment.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua offers multifaceted benefits. Firstly, it seeks protection from extreme heat and its ill effects, like sunstroke, by asking Allah for His cover and protection. Secondly, it is a powerful request for lawful sustenance (halal rizq), ensuring that our needs are met through permissible means, which brings immense blessings. Thirdly, it cultivates contentment and independence from relying on people, fostering a deeper connection with Allah as our sole provider and protector. Finally, the mention of seeking refuge under Allah's Throne highlights the immense reward and security sought for the Hereafter, a protection far greater than any earthly shade.

Sahl ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a beggar came to the Prophet ﷺ and begged from him. He asked him about his possessions. He said: 'I have nothing but a rug and water skin.' He said: 'Bring them to me.' Then the Prophet ﷺ brought them and sold them for two dirhams. He said: 'O Allah, save him from the fire. O Allah, suffice him with lawful provision.' And he did not stop until he had said it three times. Sahl said: 'So he bought a rug and a water skin, and he did not beg from anyone.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 754)
