When to Read

Recite this ayah when embarking on any journey involving water โ€“ whether it's a ferry, a large ship, or even a small boat. It's a profound connection to Allah's power over all elements, invoking His protection for both the movement and the eventual safe stop.

How to Read

This ayah serves as a powerful invocation. It's best recited with sincerity and full conviction as you set off. Reflect on the meaning: acknowledging Allah's name signifies seeking His blessing and protection for the entire duration of the voyage, from departure to arrival. Imagine Allah's name being the force that guides and secures the vessel. Making this dua with a calm and present heart enhances its impact.

Virtues & Benefits

This ayah from Surah Hud is a direct supplication taught within the Quran itself, used by the Prophet Nuh (Noah), peace be upon him, and his followers as they set sail on the Ark. Reciting it invokes Allah's mercy and protection for travel over water. It's a reminder that Allah is the One who controls the seas, their currents, and the safety of those upon them. It instills a sense of reliance on Allah (tawakkul) and acknowledges His attributes of Forgiveness and Mercy, seeking His grace for a safe journey.
