بِسْمِ اللَّهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

In Allah's name is its running and its anchoring. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful.

Bismillahi majraha wa mursaaha. Innna Rabbi laghafoorur-raheem.

This powerful ayah is recited when embarking on a journey by sea, or any significant travel that involves potential risk or the unknown. It's a moment to pause, acknowledge Allah's power over all things, and seek His protection and mercy as you set off, asking for a smooth and safe journey until you reach your destination.

How to Read

Recite this ayah with sincere intention and full reliance on Allah (tawakkul) before or as you begin your sea voyage. Visualize the waves and currents being calmed by Allah's will. It's also beneficial to have a general awareness of the duas for travel, such as 'Subhanalladhi sakhara lana hadha wama kunna lahu muqrineen...' (Glory be to Allah, who has subjected this to us, and we could not have subjected it ourselves) which is recited when starting any journey.
