اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا

O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!

Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna

When to Read

This heartfelt plea is made by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during a period of drought, when the people desperately needed rain. It's a powerful supplication to be recited when rain is scarce and needed for sustenance, for the land, and for life itself. You can also say this when you see the signs of drought or when the need for beneficial rain is evident.

How to Read

The repetition emphasizes the earnestness and urgency of the need for Allah's mercy. Raise your hands slightly, as the Prophet ﷺ did when asking Allah for rain. Focus on your need and trust in Allah's ability to provide. The prayer itself is simple, direct, and from the heart.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly seeks Allah's provision for a fundamental need of life. Rain is a mercy from Allah, bringing life to the land, enabling crops to grow, and sustaining His creation. By asking for it, we acknowledge our dependence on Him and seek His blessing for abundance and well-being. The repetition underscores the importance of seeking Allah's help persistently.

Narrated Anas: The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ during the drought that was prevailing in the time of the latter. So Allah's Messenger ﷺ stood up to supplicate for rain. He supplicated for rain and the people said, 'O Allah's Messenger! You have asked for rain for the people.' He then said, 'I am not a dictator, nor a judge, but I am just a warner.' Then he said, 'O Allah! Send down to us Your blessings and Your grace. O Allah! Send down to us Your blessings and Your grace.' He then said, 'O Allah! Send down rain that will be good for them, that will fill the cisterns, that will make the plants grow, that will bring back the milk.' He said it three times. He then looked towards the sky and saw clouds gathering and before he got down (from the pulpit) the rain started pouring. He said, 'O Allah! It is indeed a blessing.'
