Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan Abu Dawud 4023

All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power on my part.

When to Read

This dua is recited when wearing any new clothing, including specifically for a formal occasion. The feeling of receiving a new outfit, especially one for a significant event, naturally brings to mind gratitude for Allah's provision. It's a moment to acknowledge that this blessing, like all blessings, comes directly from Him.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and heartfelt gratitude as you put on the new garment for your formal event. It's recommended to recite it while wearing the clothing, making a conscious connection between the blessing and its source. Feel the fabric, the fit, and the suitability for the occasion, and let that prompt your reflection on Allah's generosity.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful dua encapsulates profound gratitude and tawakkul (reliance on Allah). By acknowledging that the ability to acquire and wear the new garment is from Allah's grace alone ('without any strength or power on my part'), we reinforce our dependence on Him. This fosters humility and strengthens our connection to our Creator, turning a worldly blessing into an act of worship and a means of seeking further favor from Allah. It reminds us that even in our preparations for worldly affairs like formal events, we should remain mindful of our ultimate dependence on the One who truly bestows all favors.

Source & Authentication

The narration states: 'When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a new garment, he would mention its name, be it a shirt or a turban, and then recite:
