Dua for Dressing with Humility and Gratitude

Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3516

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is due to Allah, Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or might on my part.

Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin.

When to Read

This beautiful dua should be recited immediately after putting on a new garment or even a regularly worn one. It's a moment to pause and acknowledge Allah's blessings. Think about it: before this, you were without it. Now, you are clothed. This is a tangible blessing to be thankful for.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere gratitude in your heart as you finish dressing. It’s best said right after putting on the garment. The emphasis is on acknowledging Allah's provision, not just the act of wearing clothes. It’s a personal reflection, so say it in a way that feels natural and heartfelt.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates profound gratitude for a blessing we often take for granted – the ability to be clothed. It reminds us that even something as basic as attire is a provision from Allah. By reciting it, we cultivate humility, recognizing that our possessions and even our ability to acquire them are from Him alone, not from our own power or intellect. This practice aligns our daily actions with remembrance of Allah, fostering a conscious awareness of His blessings throughout the day.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When any one of you puts on a garment, he should say: Praise be to Allah Who has clothed me with that with which I cover my private parts and adorn myself in my life. Then he should say: O Allah, I ask You for its good and the good of what it was made for, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4023). Another narration: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever wears a garment and says: Praise be to Allah, Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me without any strength on my part or power from my body. Allah forgives his previous and future sins.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3516).
