الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is for Allah Who clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me without any strength on my part or a power.
Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah
When to Read
This dua is recommended to be recited when wearing a new garment, whether it's a shirt, trousers, a turban, or any other type of clothing. It's a beautiful way to begin the experience of wearing something new with gratitude and humility.
How to Read
It's best recited immediately after putting on the new clothing. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua to acknowledge that all blessings, including the provision of clothing, come from Allah alone. Reciting it with sincerity and understanding its meaning helps us stay mindful of Allah's favors in our daily lives.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua acknowledges Allah's grace in providing clothing, which is a basic necessity and a blessing. It fosters humility by recognizing that our ability to acquire or even wear clothes is not by our own might but by Allah's provision. This act helps in seeking Allah's blessing (barakah) in the garment and in all our provisions. The Prophet ﷺ also taught to say for a new garment: 'O Allah, grant me good of it and good of what it was made for, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4020 - Hasan). Combining these intentions can enrich the experience.
