Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan Abu Dawud 4023

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is for Allah Who has clothed me in this (garment) and provided it for me without any strength or power on my part.

Alhamdulillahil-ladhi kasani hadhat-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart as you put on the new clothing. It's a beautiful way to acknowledge that all provisions, including clothing, come from Allah alone. Feel the gratitude well up as you recognize His blessings in your life.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua teaches us essential Islamic etiquette and gratitude. It reminds us that every blessing, including the ability to wear clothes that protect and adorn us, is from Allah. By acknowledging this, we affirm Tawhid (the Oneness of Allah) and reject any sense of self-reliance or pride. It cultivates humility and keeps us mindful of His continuous favors, which can open doors for further blessings.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When any one of you puts on a garment, he should say: AL-HAMDU LILLAHIL-LADHI KASANI HADHAT-THAWBA WA RAZAQANIHI MIN GHAYRI HAWLIN MINNI WA LA QUWWAH (All praise is for Allah Who has clothed me in this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power on my part). Then he should say: ALHAMDU LILLAHI ALA NI'MATI AL-ISLAM (Praise be to Allah for the blessing of Islam). Then he should say: ALHAMDU LILLAHI ALA MA RAZAQANI (Praise be to Allah for what He has provided), whether it is a garment that is modest or immodest [meaning: whether it is an expensive or cheap garment].'
