الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
Praise is to Allah Who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.
Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah.
When to Read
This dua is recited when wearing a new garment, whether it's a shirt, a pair of trousers, a cloak, or any item of clothing. It's a beautiful way to begin the act of wearing something new with gratitude and humility, recognizing that this provision comes from Allah alone.
How to Read
As you put on the new garment, wear it with your right hand and say this dua. Take a moment to feel the fabric and the comfort, connecting your heart to the meaning of the words. It's an acknowledgement that even this simple blessing is a gift from your Creator.
Virtues & Benefits
Wearing new clothes can be a source of joy and confidence. By reciting this dua, we transform a worldly pleasure into an act of worship. It reinforces our reliance on Allah (Tawakkul), reminding us that all strength and provision originate from Him. It also cultivates gratitude (Shukr) for His blessings, big and small, and seeks protection from any arrogance that might accompany new possessions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us a related dua for wearing clothes in general, which touches upon seeking the 'garment of faith' and 'concealing our private parts', highlighting the spiritual dimension of even seemingly mundane acts.
Source & Authentication
When the Prophet (ﷺ) wore a new garment, he would mention its name (like a shirt or a cloak) and say: 'Alhamdulillahilladhi hadhani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah.' (Praise is to Allah Who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.)
