Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4023

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is for Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any strength or power on my part.

Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin

When to Read

This dua is recited immediately after putting on a new garment, whether it's a shirt, trousers, a jacket, or any other piece of clothing. It's a beautiful practice to acknowledge Allah's grace upon receiving something new and to seek His blessings and protection.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely after you have fully put on the new clothing. It's best said immediately after wearing it, preferably before you start your activities for the day. Speak the words with humility and gratitude, recognizing that all provisions come from Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua upon wearing new clothes brings immense blessings. Firstly, it acknowledges Allah's bounty, reminding us that everything we have, including our clothes, is a gift from Him, not due to our own might. This fosters humility and gratitude. Secondly, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that whoever says this dua is forgiven for their past sins. This highlights the spiritual significance of seemingly simple acts of remembrance (dhikr). The Tirmidhi version mentions that the person is forgiven for their previous sins, and in another narration by Abu Dawud, it's mentioned that the person is granted protection and good health.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever wears a garment and says: *Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin* (All praise is for Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any strength or power on my part), he will be forgiven his previous sins.'
