الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is for Allah, Who clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me without any strength or power from my side.
Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited when wearing a new garment. It's a profound way to acknowledge that even the seemingly simple act of acquiring and wearing clothes is a blessing from Allah. It reminds us to be grateful and humble, recognizing that all provision comes from Him, not from our own abilities.
How to Read
As you put on a new piece of clothing, pause for a moment. Take a deep breath and consciously acknowledge the blessing. Recite this dua with sincerity, feeling the gratitude in your heart. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to say this upon wearing any new garment, so it applies to shirts, trousers, hijabs, abayas, and indeed any new item of clothing.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful expression of gratitude and humility. It brings the wearer Allah's protection and blessing for the new garment. It helps us remember that our ability to obtain and wear clothes is from Allah, fostering contentment and preventing arrogance. The Prophet ﷺ also taught us to say a dua when taking off clothes, praying to be protected by Allah's throne. Thus, seeking Allah's protection extends to both ends of the process.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a new garment, he would mention its name (like a shirt or a cloak), and then say: 'Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah.' (And when he took off a garment, he would mention its name and say: 'O Allah, may You protect me from its evil and from the evil of that which is made for it.')
