الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.
Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah
When to Read
This dua is recited when wearing a new garment, whether it's a shirt, trousers, a turban, or any other article of clothing. It is especially poignant when the new clothing is a symbol of blessing or a step up from previous attire.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity after you have put on the new clothing. It's a moment to pause and reflect on Allah's blessings. Imagine yourself standing before Allah, acknowledging His grace in providing for you, and actively seeking His help to keep your heart pure.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua serves as a shield against the subtle trap of pride that can accompany new possessions. By acknowledging that the ability to acquire and wear the clothing comes solely from Allah, you maintain humility. It reinforces the understanding that all blessings are from Him and not due to your own might, fostering gratitude and spiritual grounding.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever wears a garment and says: Alhamdulillah alladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah, he will be forgiven his past and future sins.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4023, graded Hasan by Al-Albani). The Prophet (peace be upon him) also used to wear a shirt and would say: 'Alhamdulillah alladhi kafani wa awani...' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4021). The version concerning new clothing is specifically about acknowledging the provision of the garment itself.
