Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan Abu Dawood, Sunan At-Tirmidhi 4023, 1767

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, without any strength or power from my side.

Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi kasani hadhath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recited when wearing new clothes, whether it's a new shirt, trousers, hijab, or any garment. It's a perfect moment to express gratitude to Allah for His blessings and to acknowledge that all provision comes from Him alone. Think about it: as you put on something new, you can immediately connect that blessing back to its True Source.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and contemplation as you put on the new garment. Feel the gratitude in your heart for Allah's provision. The act of wearing the new clothes itself is the trigger for the remembrance of Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

Wearing new clothes is a blessing from Allah. This dua helps us to: 1. **Express Gratitude:** It's a direct acknowledgement of Allah's favor upon us. 2. **Humble Ourselves:** By attributing the provision to Allah and negating our own strength ('wa la quwwah'), we remind ourselves that we are dependent on Him. 3. **Seek Protection:** Just as we seek Allah's help for all things, this dua begins the journey of the new garment with His name, seeking His barakah (blessings) in it. It’s more than just a prayer; it’s a mindset shift, ensuring our worldly blessings remind us of our Creator.

Source & Authentication

Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever wears a new garment and says: > **Arabic:** الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ > **Translation:** 'All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, without any strength or power from my side.' Then Allah will forgive him for his past sins and what he will do in the way of sins after that.'
