Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a new garment, he would mention its name, be it a shirt or a turban, and then say: 'O Allah, You are the One Who has clothed me. I ask You for its good and the good of what it was made for. I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for.' Then he would say: 'Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi kafani wa rawa-ni wa a'az-zani'. (This is a different version of the dua, indicating the general practice of supplicating for new garments). Abu Dawud said: 'Umar b. Al-Khattab wore a new garment and said: 'Alhamdulillahil-ladhi kasani hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin.' (All praise is due to Allah, Who has clothed me with this and provided it for me, though I had no power nor strength).
