الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any strength or power from myself.
Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadhath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah
When to Read
This dua is recited immediately after putting on any new garment, or even when wearing a familiar one. It's a beautiful way to acknowledge Allah's blessing for the provision of clothing, a basic necessity that many are deprived of. By reciting this, we remind ourselves that our ability to acquire and wear clothes comes solely from Allah's grace, not our own might.
How to Read
Recite this sincerely with the intention of thanking Allah. It's best to recite it as you are fully dressed or as you complete the act of wearing the garment. Focus on the meaning, recognizing that every blessing, including the clothes on your back, originates from your Creator. This practice helps cultivate humility and gratitude, guarding against any potential arrogance that fine clothing might otherwise inspire.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua after wearing a garment brings immense reward. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'Whoever says this when he puts on a new garment, Allah will forgive him for whatever has passed (i.e. sins).' This indicates a profound spiritual benefit attached to this simple act of remembrance. It also serves as a powerful antidote to vanity; by acknowledging that the clothing and the means to obtain it are from Allah, we remain grounded and protected from the ill effects of pride and ostentation.
