Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4023

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is due to Allah, Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any strength or power from myself.

*Alhamdulillahil-ladhi kasani hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah*

When to Read

This dua is recited immediately after putting on a new piece of clothing, whether it’s a shirt, trousers, a shawl, or any garment. It's a beautiful moment to pause and acknowledge Allah's blessings.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity after you have fully put on the new garment. It's a personal reflection, so say it quietly, appreciating the blessing of being clothed and protected from the elements, and the provision of this garment. This practice teaches us humility, reminding us that even simple blessings are from Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua demonstrates gratitude for Allah's favors. It acknowledges that all provision, including the ability to acquire and wear clothes, comes solely from Him. This practice fosters humility and dependence on Allah alone, recognizing that any strength or means we possess is a gift from Him. It also serves as a reminder to be thankful for the blessings we often take for granted, like being able to cover our 'awrah and protect ourselves from the weather.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he put on a new garment, would mention its name, be it a shirt or a turban. Then he would say: 'Alhamdulillahil-ladhi kasanithani hadha, wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah' (All praise is due to Allah, Who has clothed me with this and provided it for me, without any strength or power from myself).
