All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, without any strength or power from myself.
Alhamdulillahilladhi kasani hadha ath-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin.
When to Read
This dua is recited when putting on new clothes or even regular clothing. It's a beautiful moment to acknowledge Allah's blessing in providing us with attire, which not only covers our 'awrah but also reflects our outward adherence to Islamic values.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity after you have put on the garment. It's a personal reflection, so say it quietly, focusing on the meaning of gratitude and the intention to uphold modesty through your dress. The act of wearing clothes, especially those that are modest, is an opportunity to seek Allah's help in maintaining our Islamic identity and character.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses profound gratitude for Allah's provision and grace. By acknowledging that the ability to acquire and wear clothes comes solely from Him, we strengthen our dependence on Allah (tawakkul). Furthermore, when we make this dua, it serves as an inner reminder to wear clothes that are pleasing to Allah, which includes upholding the principles of hijab and modest dress for both brothers and sisters. This outward adherence to Islamic dress codes is a visible manifestation of our faith and an effort to protect ourselves and society from temptation, as Allah says: > **Arabic:** يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُل لِّأَزْوَاجِكَ وَبَنَاتِكَ وَنِسَاءِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يُدْنِينَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِن جَلَابِيبِهِنَّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰ أَن يُعْرَفْنَ فَلَا يُؤْذَيْنَ ۗ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا > **Translation:** "O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful." > **Transliteration:** *Ya ayyuha an-nabiyyu qul li-azwajika wa banatika wa nisa'i al-mu'minina yudnina 'alayhinna min jalabibihinna; dhalika adna an yu'rafna fala yu'dhayna. Wa kanallahu Ghaforan Raheemah* > — Al-Ahzab 33:59 Wearing modest clothing is a practical expression of seeking Allah's pleasure and protection.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: When a man wears a new garment, he should say: All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, without any strength or power from myself. And when a woman wears a new garment, she should say: All praise is due to Allah Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, without any strength or power from myself. (Sunan Abi Dawud 4023, graded Hasan) Another narration from Tirmidhi states: > The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If any of you wears a new garment, he should say: O Allah, grant me of its goodness and the goodness of what it was made for, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what it was made for. (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1767, graded Hasan) While the second hadith is about new garments specifically and contains slightly different wording related to seeking the goodness *of* the garment and seeking refuge from its evil, the core dua for receiving the garment as a provision from Allah remains applicable and highly encouraged, especially when coupled with the intention of modesty.
