O Allah, to You be praise. You have clothed me with it. I ask You for its good and the good of that for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made.
Allahumma lakal-hamdu anta kasawtanih. As'aluka khayrahu wa khayra ma suni'a lah, wa a'udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni'a lah.
When to Read
Recite this dua when you put on your clothes, especially for significant occasions like a job interview, an important presentation, or any event where you need to make a good impression and seek Allah's blessing for the outcome. It's a specific moment to connect the physical act of dressing with seeking divine favor and protection for your endeavor.
How to Read
As you put on your garment, reflect on the profound meaning of this dua. It’s more than just reciting words; it's an acknowledgment that Allah is the ultimate provider and the One who facilitates all good. Recite it with sincerity, focusing on asking Allah for the goodness associated with the clothing itself (such as feeling confident and presenting well) and, critically, the goodness of the purpose for which you are wearing it (like success in your interview). Simultaneously, seek refuge from any harm, anxiety, or negativity that might arise from your attire or the situation you are entering.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua transforms the simple act of dressing into an act of worship and profound reliance (tawakkul) on Allah. By praising Allah for providing your attire, you cultivate deep **gratitude** (shukr), which the Quran tells us is a key to unlocking further blessings: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]" (Al-Ibrahim 14:7). More specifically, by asking for 'its good and the good of that for which it was made,' you are explicitly seeking Allah's help in achieving the positive outcomes of wearing these clothes—whether that's inner **confidence**, a favorable impression, or ultimately, success in your interview. Seeking refuge 'from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made' acts as a spiritual shield against potential negativity, anxieties, or unforeseen challenges that could hinder your performance. This conscious reliance on Allah, knowing that your efforts are supported by divine assistance, is the true source of lasting confidence.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: 'When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a new garment, he would name it, whether it was a turban or a shirt or a cloak, then he would say: اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ كَسَوْتَنِيهِ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهُ وَخَيْرَ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ (O Allah, to You be praise. You have clothed me with it. I ask You for its good and the good of that for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made).' — Sunan Abi Dawud 4022
