All praise is due to Allah, Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, though I had no power nor capability myself.
Alhamdulillahil-ladhi kasani hadha-th-thawba wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin
When to Read
This dua is recited when wearing new clothes, but its essence applies to wearing any clothing. As we put on our clothes each day, we can consciously make this intention and whisper this praise to Allah, acknowledging His blessing in providing us with the means to cover ourselves with modesty and decency.
How to Read
It's best recited immediately after putting on a new garment, or at the beginning of wearing any clothing for the day. Stand, if possible, and say the dua with sincerity, reflecting on the immense blessings Allah has bestowed upon you. The feeling of gratitude should accompany the utterance.
Virtues & Benefits
This beautiful supplication, taught to us by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, does more than just thank Allah for the physical garment. It fundamentally shifts our perspective. By acknowledging that Allah provided the clothing 'without any power or capability on my part,' we're recognizing our utter dependence on Him. This fosters humility and gratitude, key aspects of *taqwa* (God-consciousness). The clothing becomes a symbol of Allah's provision and our commitment to using His blessings in ways that are pleasing to Him, turning it into a 'garment of piety.' The Prophet ﷺ also taught us that Allah loves to see the signs of His blessings on His servant, which includes wearing clean and presentable clothes in a grateful manner.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When any one of you performs his ablution and it is done well, and then he wears two garments and sits down until he has cooled off, and then he gets up, he is indeed on an honorable level. If he asks for anything, it will be granted to him. If he seeks refuge, he will be granted refuge.' Then he mentioned a similar tradition, but he said: 'When any one of you performs his ablution and it is done well, and then he wears a garment and says: [The dua is then mentioned].' Al-Tirmidhi said: 'This is a *hasan* hadith.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1767, Sunan Abi Dawud 4023)
