Wearing Clothes
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud, Sunan At-Tirmidhi 4025, 1768

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِيْ كَسَانِيْ هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيْهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّيْ وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is due to Allah Who clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me without any strength or power from my side.

Alhamdulillahilladhi kasaani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah

When to Read

This dua is recited immediately after putting on a new garment. It's a beautiful moment to pause and acknowledge Allah's blessings as you dress yourself, whether it's a simple shirt or more elaborate attire. It's about recognizing that even this seemingly mundane act is a gift from our Creator.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with a grateful heart as you complete the act of wearing your new clothing. Focus on the meaning of the words, acknowledging that your ability to acquire and wear this garment is purely from Allah's grace. The emphasis is on humility and recognizing His provision.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua is a powerful act of gratitude. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that whoever says this dua upon wearing a new garment will have all their past sins forgiven. This is a profound mercy, turning a simple act of dressing into an opportunity for immense spiritual reward. It fosters a mindset of constant thankfulness, reminding us that every blessing, big or small, is from Allah (SWT).

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a new garment, he would mention its name - whether a shirt, a turban, or a cloak - and then he would say: 'Alhamdulillahilladhi kasaani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah.' (Sunan Abu Dawud 4025, Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1768 - the wording in Tirmidhi is slightly different but the meaning is the same). It is mentioned in some narrations that the one who says this will have his past sins forgiven.
