When the Scales Feel Unfair: Dua for Trusting Allah's Judgment in Disputes

Trust in Allah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2722

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not feel humble, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a prayer that is not answered. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min du'a'in la yusma'. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.

When to Read

This dua is profoundly relevant when you find yourself entangled in legal disputes or disagreements where justice feels elusive. Recite it with earnestness before and during legal proceedings, when you feel overwhelmed by the complexity of the situation, or when facing unjust accusations. It's a way to anchor your heart in Allah's ultimate justice, regardless of the worldly outcomes.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity, raising your hands if possible. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, internalizing the plea for beneficial knowledge, a humble heart, a contented soul, and an accepted supplication. Understand that while we take worldly means, our ultimate reliance and trust are with Allah. Repeat it regularly during the period of the dispute.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication seeks protection from the common pitfalls that can plague us, especially under stress. Seeking refuge from 'knowledge that does not benefit' shields us from useless arguments or information that only fuels anxiety. A 'heart that does not feel humble' can lead to arrogance or despair, while a 'soul that is not satisfied' breeds discontent. The plea for an 'unheard prayer' is a deep yearning for Allah's acceptance. By asking for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment, we align ourselves with what truly matters, fostering patience and trust in Allah's perfect plan and judgment, even when human systems falter.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not feel humble, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a prayer that is not answered. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.'
