Dua for Trusting Allah's Plan for a Future Child

Trust in Allah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2062

O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what You have decreed for it, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have decreed for it.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khairaha wa khaira ma jabaltaha 'alaihi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabaltaha 'alaihi.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua embodies the core Islamic principle of *tawakkul* (trust in Allah). By seeking Allah's protection and asking for His guidance in raising a child, we acknowledge His complete knowledge and control over our affairs. It instills peace of mind, knowing that our efforts are supported by the Best of Planners. This supplication also seeks to safeguard the child from negative influences and inclinations, asking Allah to shape them according to His perfect decree.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you goes to his wife, and says: ‘In the name of Allah. O Allah, keep Satan away from us, and keep Satan away from what You have provided for us.’ Then if Allah has decreed that a child should be born to them, Satan will not be able to harm him.' Another narration of this hadith (Sahih Muslim 1414) includes a similar supplication for offspring: 'Allahumma jannibna ash-shaytana wa jannibish-shaytana ma razaqtana' (O Allah, keep us away from Satan and keep Satan away from that which You have bestowed upon us). The dua provided in the main entry is specifically for the child's well-being, as narrated separately and fitting the context of trusting Allah's plan for the child's nature.
