Entrusting Your Legacy to Allah: A Powerful Dua for Acceptance

Trust in Allah
Sahih HadithSahih Ibn Hibban 864

O Allah, make the widest of Your provisions for me upon old age and at the end of my life. O Allah, make the best of my deeds its conclusion, and the best of my days the day I meet You.

Allahumma-j'al awsa' rizqika 'alayya 'inda kibari sinni wa-n-qita'i 'umri. Allahumma-j'al khayra 'amali khawatihahu, wa khayra ayyami yawma alqaka fih.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is perfect for reflection at any time, especially during moments of contemplation about life's journey. It’s particularly poignant as we age or face significant life changes, reminding us to focus our hopes on Allah's ultimate acceptance. We can make it a regular part of our evening supplications or when we're simply reflecting on our purpose and deeds.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heart full of hope in Allah's mercy. Imagine your life unfolding, and visualize yourself at its end, having lived a life pleasing to Allah. The dua asks for provision not just in wealth, but in the ability to continue obeying Allah and in the ultimate reward of meeting Him. The emphasis on the 'best of deeds' being the conclusion and the 'best of days' being the day of meeting Him highlights the importance of ending well, which is a continuous effort throughout life.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound expression of Tawakkul (trust in Allah) and a focus on the Hereafter. It teaches us to prioritize the quality and acceptance of our deeds over worldly pursuits, especially as life draws to a close. By asking for Allah to make the best of our deeds the conclusion, we are essentially asking for His guidance to remain steadfast and righteous until our last breath. This focus on the end-result is crucial, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'The deeds are judged by their conclusions.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6137). Making this dua helps us live with the constant awareness of Allah, seeking His pleasure above all else.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Allahumma-j'al awsa' rizqika 'alayya 'inda kibari sinni wa-n-qita'i 'umri. Allahumma-j'al khayra 'amali khawatihahu, wa khayra ayyami yawma alqaka fih.' (Translation: O Allah, make the widest of Your provisions for me upon old age and at the end of my life. O Allah, make the best of my deeds its conclusion, and the best of my days the day I meet You.) This was narrated by Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (864). Al-Albani authenticated it as Sahih.
