حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ
Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but He. On Him I have placed my trust, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.
Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa Huwa, 'alayhi tawakkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul 'Arshil 'Adheem.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is particularly relevant when you feel the sting of betrayal, when someone has broken your trust, and you're left feeling vulnerable and uncertain. Recite it when you need to remind yourself of Allah's ultimate power and sufficiency, especially when human support seems to fail or when plans you relied on fall apart due to someone's actions.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm belief in its meaning. Understand that 'Hasbiyallah' means Allah is enough for you – He is your protector, your provider, and your ultimate recourse. Focus on the vastness of His dominion ('Arsh al-'Adheem') to put your troubles into perspective. It's best recited after Fajr and Maghrib prayers, seven times each, as recommended in other narrations, but its power is available any time you feel the need for Allah's support.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua, signifying its immense benefit. When a person recites this with sincere belief, Allah suffices for them against any worry or harm they face. This includes protection from betrayal and the anxieties that follow, by shifting your reliance from flawed creation to the perfect Creator. It fosters deep tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and peace of mind, knowing that ultimately, He is in control and has a plan that encompasses all.
Source & Authentication
The narration in Sahih al-Bukhari states: 'The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Whoever asks Allah to grant him (any favour), he should ask for it with determination, for Allah is not prevented by anything (from giving him).' He also said, 'If you ask Allah for Paradise, ask for it with Paradise, for it is a great gate for the Lord.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306). In another narration from Sahih Muslim: Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated: 'The last supplication that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) uttered was: 'Hasbiyallahu wa ni'mal wakeel' (Allah is Sufficient for me and He is the Best Disposer of affairs), when he was thrown into the fire. And the last supplication that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) uttered was: 'Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa Huwa, 'alayhi tawakkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul 'Arshil 'Adheem' (Allah is sufficient for me, there is no god but He. On Him I have placed my trust, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne), when he was told 'Verily, there gather against you men, so fear them' (Al Imran 3:173). But it only increased them in faith, and they said: 'Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.' (Sahih Muslim 2704).
