Dua for Trusting Allah's Strength When Facing the Fear of Public Shame

Trust in Allah
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1539

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, and the change of Your protection, and the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the destruction of my house, and from ruin, and from drowning, and burning, and old age. And I seek refuge in You from being struck down by the devil at the time of death, and I seek refuge in You from dying in Your path while fleeing, and I seek refuge in You from dying from a venomous bite.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min hadmi bayti, wa min halakat, wa min gharaq, wa harq, wa haram. Wa a'udhu bika min an yatakhabbatani ash-shaytanu 'indal-mawt, wa a'udhu bika min an amuta fi sabilika mudbiran, wa a'udhu bika min an amuta ladighan.

When to Read

Recite this dua when you feel overwhelmed by the potential for public shame or embarrassment. It's particularly relevant when facing situations that might expose perceived flaws or mistakes, making you feel vulnerable to the judgment of others. This dua helps you turn to Allah's protection against the distress and fear that such situations can bring.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention, focusing on the meaning and the absolute reliance it signifies on Allah's power and protection. Understand that public shame is a worldly concern, and true refuge is found only with the Creator. Raise your hands in supplication if possible, and be certain that Allah hears your plea.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua encompasses seeking refuge from many worldly and spiritual ills, including those that can lead to feelings of shame and humiliation. By seeking Allah's protection from the "cessation of Your blessings" and "change of Your protection," we acknowledge that our well-being and reputation are entirely in His hands. The inclusion of seeking refuge from "destruction," "ruin," and "burning" can be interpreted metaphorically to include the ruin of one's reputation. The emphasis on seeking refuge from the devil's influence at the time of death also highlights the ultimate battle for our faith, where fear and despair can be amplified, making our trust in Allah even more crucial.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge with these words: Translation: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, and the change of Your protection, and the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the destruction of my house, and from ruin, and from drowning, and burning, and old age. And I seek refuge in You from being struck down by the devil at the time of death, and I seek refuge in You from dying in Your path while fleeing, and I seek refuge in You from dying from a venomous bite.'
