Success
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1547

O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and allay my fears. O Allah, protect me from my front and my back, from my right and my left, and from above me. And I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being taken from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin row'ati. Allahumma-hfazni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yomini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi-'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.

Recite it in the morning and evening, making sincere supplication for strength and guidance. When facing a specific urge or temptation, pause and turn to this dua, asking Allah for the 'afiyah (well-being, safety, and protection) to withstand it.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, directing your supplication solely to Allah. Raise your hands as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us for many duas, especially when seeking great things from Allah. Believe in His power to protect you and grant you strength. Visualizing yourself free from the addiction as you make dua can also be a powerful tool.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a request for comprehensive well-being, encompassing both spiritual and worldly aspects. Seeking 'afiyah (health, safety, freedom from hardship) from Allah is a profound request. By asking for protection from all sides – front, back, right, left, above, and below – we are essentially asking for Allah's encompassing shield against all forms of harm, including the insidious harm of addictions and vices that can lead us astray from our deen and ruin our worldly lives. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself used to supplicate with this dua regularly, indicating its immense importance and efficacy.

Source & Authentication

‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not omit these supplications when he was evening and morning: “O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and allay my fears. O Allah, protect me from my front and my back, from my right and my left, and from above me. And I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being taken from beneath me.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 1547)
