It's excellent to say before sitting down to work, before a creative session, or even when feeling stuck.

Raise your hands (optional, but encouraged for supplicating). Face the Qiblah if possible. Begin with the intention of seeking Allah's help and blessings for your artistic pursuit. Utter the words with sincerity and conviction, visualizing the beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted work flowing into your life through your art. Reflect on the meaning as you speak, asking Allah to imbue your creations with truth, beauty, and purpose.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, taught by our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) when she asked what to say upon fearing the consequences of her prolonged standing in prayer, encompasses a comprehensive request for success in all aspects of life, including our creative pursuits. * **'Ilman nafi'an (beneficial knowledge):** This extends to understanding the nuances of your art form, mastering its techniques, and grasping the deeper meanings you wish to convey. It's the knowledge that enriches you and others. * **Rizqan tayyiban (goodly provision):** This includes the sustenance needed for your art – materials, time, opportunities – but also a provision that is pure and lawful, free from any compromising elements. It can also refer to the inspiration itself being pure and divinely sourced. * **'Amalan mutaqabbalan (deeds accepted):** This is the ultimate hope for any endeavor. For an artist, it means your work is accepted by Allah, that it serves a good purpose, whether it's to beautify the world, remind people of Allah, or express truth. It means your art is a source of reward, not just pleasure or fame.
