O Allah, I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and for deeds which will let me attain Your love. O Allah, make Your love more beloved to me than myself, and my family, and than cold water.
Allahumma inni as'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wal 'amal alladhi yuballighuni hubbak, Allahumma ij'al hubbaka ahabba ilayya min nafsi, wa min ahli, wa minal ma'il barid.
When to Read
This is a profound dua for anyone seeking to deepen their connection with Allah. It's particularly powerful to recite after your obligatory prayers (fardh salah), or during the stillness of the night (qiyam al-layl). You can also make it a regular part of your morning or evening remembrance (adhkar) as you strive to keep Allah at the forefront of your heart throughout the day.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Visualize the love of Allah filling your heart, making it the most cherished feeling. Understand that 'deeds which will let me attain Your love' refers to following the Sunnah, obeying His commands, and staying away from His prohibitions. Make it a personal plea, recognizing your dependence on Allah for this immense blessing.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly asks Allah for the greatest of gifts: His love. When Allah loves a servant, He guides them, supports them, and makes them beloved to His creation. Cultivating love for Allah is the essence of *ihsan* (excellence in worship), where you worship Allah as if you see Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua because genuine love for Allah is the highest aspiration, motivating us to perform actions pleasing to Him and to prioritize Him above all else, even our own desires and comforts (like cold water on a hot day).
