Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5743

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا، بِرِيقِ بَعْضِنَا، شِفَاءُ سَقِيمِنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا.

In the name of Allah, with the soil of our land, mixed with the saliva of some of us, our patient will be cured by the permission of our Lord.

Bismillahi, turbatu ardinā, rīqu ba'dinā, shifā'u saqīminā, bi-idhni rabbina.

When to Read

This dua is specifically taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for seeking a cure when someone is ill. It's meant to be recited when administering a remedy, like placing the Prophet's blessed saliva mixed with earth on a wound or afflicted area, symbolizing reliance on Allah for healing.

How to Read

The Prophet ﷺ would recite this dua when treating illnesses, often by taking a bit of soil from his land and mixing it with his own saliva (a sign of Allah's blessing upon him). This practice, when done with sincere faith and intention, is a powerful way to invoke Allah's healing. It's important to understand this wasn't magic, but a divinely guided method of seeking Shifa (cure) through Allah's will.

Virtues & Benefits

This practice highlights the profound trust the Prophet ﷺ placed in Allah for every aspect of life, including health. It teaches us to view medical treatment and remedies as means, with the ultimate cure coming only from Allah. Reciting this dua with conviction reaffirms our belief that healing is a divine decree, strengthening our connection with our Creator during vulnerable times.

Source & Authentication

‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when anyone complained of an ailment amongst the Prophet ﷺ and the other companions, Allah’s Messenger ﷺ would often trace with his finger saying: ‘Bismillahi, turbatu ardinā, rīqu ba'dinā, shifā'u saqīminā, bi-idhn Rabbina.’ (In the name of Allah, with the soil of our land, mixed with the saliva of some of us, our patient will be cured by the permission of our Lord.)
