In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
Bismillahi alladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwas-Samee'ul-'Aleem.
When to Read
This powerful dua is meant to be recited daily, morning and evening, as a general safeguard. However, in times of specific danger like floods, earthquakes, severe storms, or any widespread calamity, reciting it with sincere intention and conviction becomes even more crucial. It's a way to consciously place your trust in Allah (SWT) and seek His immediate protection for yourself, your family, and your community.
How to Read
Recite this dua with a sincere heart, focusing on the meaning and the power of Allah's name. It's recommended to say it three times in the morning and three times in the evening for maximum benefit, as mentioned in the hadith. When facing a specific calamity like a flood, elevate your hands slightly in supplication (if safe to do so), maintain a state of *wudu* if possible, and beseech Allah with humility and earnestness. Ensure you are in a safe place while reciting, as the primary action is to protect oneself physically first.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a comprehensive shield against all harm. Whoever recites it in the morning will not be afflicted by sudden calamity until the evening, and whoever recites it in the evening will not be afflicted by sudden calamity until the morning. This applies to all forms of harm, including natural disasters like floods, which are a manifestation of Allah's power and a test for us. By reciting this, we acknowledge Allah's sovereignty over all creation and seek refuge in His boundless mercy.
