Dua When Seeing Lightning

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ

Glory be to Him whom the thunder declares His glory, and the angels too, out of awe of Him.

Subhanalladhi yusabbihur-ra'du bihamdihi wal-mala'ikatu min khifatih

When to Read

This dua is recited when one witnesses lightning. It's a moment of awe and reflection, when the power of Allah is visibly manifest. The thunder accompanying the lightning serves as a reminder of Allah's might.

Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not pass over anything of the lightning except that he said: Subhanalladhi yusabbihur-ra'du bihamdihi wal-mala'ikatu min khifatih. (Glory be to Him whom the thunder declares His glory, and the angels too, out of awe of Him.) (Reported by Al-Adab Al-Mufrad and graded Hasan by Al-Albani)
