The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not used to curse anyone, nor was he ever abusive, nor a reviler in the market-place, nor did he used to compensate for evil with evil, but rather he used to forgive and pardon. And Allah did not send him (as a Prophet) until He commanded him, so if they said (to him): "(O Muhammad) you are a sorcerer!" (he would say): "O Allah, forgive them!" And if they said: "You are a liar!" (he would say): "O Allah, forgive them!" And if they said: "You are mad!" (he would say): "O Allah, forgive them!" And the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say: 'Subhanalladhi yusabbihur-ra'du bihamdihi wal-mala'ikatu min khifatih (Glory be to Allah, the One whom the thunder glorifies by praising Him, and so do the angels out of His awe).' This is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas.
