اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا.
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.
When to Read
This specific supplication is made when the heat becomes unbearable and thirst is widespread due to a lack of rain. It's a direct plea to Allah for His mercy to send down beneficial rain, alleviating the suffering.
How to Read
This dua is simple and direct, reflecting the urgency of the situation. Raise your hands, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when making dua for rain. Repeat the phrase 'Allahumma aghithna' three times, emphasizing the earnest need for Allah's help. It can be recited individually or collectively by a community facing such hardship. The sincerity and conviction in your heart are paramount.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is a direct manifestation of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). It acknowledges that ultimate control over the skies and the provision of rain lies with Allah alone. By making this dua, we are actively seeking Allah's mercy and His intervention in a time of need. The Quran emphasizes Allah's power over the elements: 'And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings preceding His mercy, and We send down from the heaven pure water' (Al-Furqan 25:48). Asking Allah for rain is asking for life and sustenance for ourselves and all creation.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought of the rain during his lifetime. So, he offered supplication (on the pulpit) and supplicated for rain. Then, the clouds gathered and it rained, and the people went out (in the rain) and had their fill. Then, the following year it rained in the same month, and the people rejoiced at it. Then, Allah's Messenger ﷺ said: 'Take to the giving of thanks, for the increase (of rain) is near.' Then he offered supplication on the pulpit and said: 'O Allah, around us and not on us.' So the clouds broke up and rained upon the city for thirty days. So, Allah's Messenger ﷺ was asked: 'O Allah's Messenger ﷺ! Have you taken the people as a target and killed them?' So, Allah's Messenger ﷺ said: 'I do not know but that I have given thanks to Allah for the rain which He has sent down for us.' Then he offered supplication and said: 'O Allah, (send rain) on the plateaus and the hills, on the woods and the deserts and the cultivated lands.' So, they had rain the like of which they had never had before, and it was said: 'That is like the giving of thanks.'
